Zaterdag 1 oktober in Bureau Europa te zien, Huidhonger. Een bewegende installatie over de vriendschap van een plant in een pot met z’n mede bewoner.
Het werk dat te zien is is een onderdeel van ‘Huidhonger’ uit 2015 gerealiseerd in Kunstmoes, Heerlen.
De cactus en zijn broeder, zijn beste vriend, maatje. Samen sterk in een pot. We kennen allemaal die Youtube filmpjes van honden of katten die bevriend zijn met muis, rat of kangoeroe. Zo vertederend. Dat planten maatjes nodig hebben verbaasde me niets. Deze cactus is namelijk niet helemaal gezond. En als je ziekjes in bed ligt heb je toch ook graag iemand die op je let.
Het werk zoekt naar intimiteit in herhaling. Te zien is een fascinatie voor het ritme van het dagelijkse leven. En dan vooral de herhalende handelingen in het dagelijkse bestaan. “Door opzoek te zijn naar de ritmiek van het handelen van mijzelf en mijn directe omgeving heb ik verschillende werken gerealiseerd waarin een beeldende choreografie binnen het beeld centraal staat. Het beeld is in beweging door natuurlijke aspecten (de draaiing van de aarde, groeikracht etc.) of door motorische ondersteuning”.

“On Saturday, October 1st, exhibited at Bureau Europa, ‘Huidhonger.’ A moving installation about the friendship of a potted plant with its fellow inhabitant.
The work on display is part of ‘Skin Hunger,’ created in 2015 at Kunstmoes, Heerlen.
“The cactus and its brother, its best friend, companion. Strong together in a pot. We all know those YouTube videos of dogs or cats being friends with mice, rats, or kangaroos. So endearing. It didn’t surprise me that plants need companions. This cactus, in particular, isn’t entirely healthy. And when you’re feeling under the weather, lying in bed, you still appreciate someone watching over you.”
The work seeks intimacy in repetition. It explores a fascination with the rhythm of daily life, particularly the repetitive actions that define our existence. ‘By exploring the rhythm of my own actions and those of my immediate surroundings, I have created various works where a visual choreography within the image takes center stage. The image is in motion due to natural aspects (the rotation of the earth, growth force, etc.) or through motorized support’.
